This beautiful Birdhouse imagined and signed by the young French designer Emilie Cazin really is a work of urban art.

In the concrete context of our modern cities, this wooden birdhouse is an open invitation to nature. A hand reaching out to the wild.

Emilie Cazin created this Birdhouse in her natural need to connect with the nature, even if cloistered in a city apartment. Openly inspired by the urban building-landscape, with hanging antennas, the Birdhouse is a strange reminder of a parabolic antenna for nature.

Sustainable and landscape friendly, the Lake Tahoe Residence by TGH Architects is a pleasant architectural view, fully integrated and surrounded by mature, tall trees.
Every now and then, we will include a neighborhood project on Deco Journal. Because here you can (maybe) see your neighbor’s house. Because Architecture (and everything in and around) isn’t just for fancy budgets.

The Lorden Residence by Vast Architecture is a single family home planned and built for a family of six on a small site in Boulder, Colorado. The owner acted as general contractor and the house was energy – efficiently built using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) and Structurally Insulated Panels (SIP).

The house uses solar PV and thermal system providing renewable energy sources and cost – efficient comfort. Starting with the basement where a special space has been designed for the husband’s collection of beer nostalgia (also the TV and a mini bar have been installed in the basement) and getting to the main floor: there’s an open kitchen-dining-living space, an away space, a mud room, powder room and play room.

On the second floor there’s the master suite, the laundry room, an office, a boys room and a girls room and a large bath (which can be used by all four children in the same time). There’s a third floor with a small place for chess and an opening door to the roof top deck.

That’s the charm and the beauty of a neighborhood house. It could just as well be yours! VaST Architecture did a great job with this single family residence. (and they even got a letter of recommendation from the contractor, which is mighty useful!) (photos Daniel O’Connor)

The table was designed by pressure, using a new material derived from branches under high pressure. The material was molded into a coffee table that casts shadows just like a tree does.
Architect Nancy Copley doesn’t think being in harmony with the site of a construction is just a concept. She believes in that concept at the point of shaping her own home to really fit the site.

Not only she integrated her home in the surrounding nature and used the site’s specifics, but she made the nature part of her house. Nancy Copley’s house is the perfect harmony in the key of nature.

The low dome has two entries one of which is a cantilever door. The main entrance to the house is located at the end of a stone-steps alley, with water all around and even if you’ve entered the house, the natural dimension and the feeling of the interior garden can easily mislead you into believing you’ve entered the magic pond house.

The suspended staircase, the great room, everything is natural, everything is wood, everything is simple and integrated in the nearby surroundings. Nancy Copley’s home may not be the most impressive architectural construction, but it surely is an eco harmonious and environment protective project.

Not long ago I started a details-series about the little inspirational details in everything we see. The last time it was all about exterior blinds, now it’s still about the exterior, the amazing exterior garden of a house, all signed by Angela Roldão Arquitetura.

The exotic beauty and the absolute calm and peace air coming from this place make me stare in complete abandon of myself, thinking about endless beaches, neverending holidays, swimming in the pool and late night cocktails.

I can’t decide if the place looks better the day or the night, I just have the feeling the house and the surrounding garden & pool are never asleep or never quite awake. It’s just beautiful. And the photos taken by Daniel Mansur captured all that magic! (you can see more from Daniel Mansur’s work here)

I have a thing for recycled products. Especially for those looking really good! The Wine Barrel Folding Chair by Whit McCleod is not a new design concept, but it surely is a 90% recycled one!

Made from White Oak wine barrels staves, this beautiful wine barrel folding chair is held together by72 screws and four oak rails, build to hold 600lbs. Each chair is made with care, numbered on the back of the seat where there’s also a mention of the winery that was the original’s barrel’s home. True to natural finish, the Whit McCleod Wine Barrel Folding Chair was treated with natural linseed oil. Perfect for indoor and outdoor use, it looks beautiful and really is comfortable!

If skyscrapers are mainly the new city landscape, we might as well have gardens atop, it just makes it more spectacular.

This Museum Tower Roof Terrace from New York was designed by Architect Francois de Menil. The metal panels of the perforated pavilion allow an interesting view on the surroundings. There’s also a Forrest Myers sculpture at the east end of the terrace, thus mixing steel and nature, right under the clouds.
