This beautiful Birdhouse imagined and signed by the young French designer Emilie Cazin really is a work of urban art.

In the concrete context of our modern cities, this wooden birdhouse is an open invitation to nature. A hand reaching out to the wild.

Emilie Cazin created this Birdhouse in her natural need to connect with the nature, even if cloistered in a city apartment. Openly inspired by the urban building-landscape, with hanging antennas, the Birdhouse is a strange reminder of a parabolic antenna for nature.

If you want a vintage fireplace with a modern twist, you should consider the contrast resulting from the usage of a cold, lifeless material like the concrete for the construction of a fireplace. That design move could surprise more than just aesthetically.

A concrete fireplace with a very interesting finish: an encaustic finish, a medieval painting technique (pigments in a wax suspension) which gives a most interesting patina is an excellent choice for an antique looking fireplace. You can also match your flooring to the concrete fireplace. (The fireplace pictured here was designed by Richard Beda)

What could set a simple table and bench aside from an ocean of table and benches. Simple. Wood made? Details!

Details make the world go round! And in Barnaby Tuke’s Lined Series case, it’s the color touch that’s making the table and the bench more attractive, original and unique. Made in solid oak, with powder coated steel, available in 4 sizes, each with removable legs for easy transportation, the Lined Series by Barnaby Tuke is minimalist and appealing.

It’s Wimbledon time! A little tennis (even if it’s about Roland Garros) is on the menu today!

Celebrating the Roland Garros, 5.5 designers reinterpreted the iconic tournament in “3 Sets” and transporter tennis in object design through a stool, a panel for domestic purposes, glasses and carafe.

The tennis racquet reinterpreted as a “Break” stool is quite impressive, especially knowing that its strings were properly tensioned by the very Laurent Lucas, the official Roland-Garros stringing technician!

The 15/30 table is a mini-copy of the Roland Garros tournament panel and the carafe and glasses “ACE” are inspired by the tennis balls tubes. Now that’s living la vida tennis!

It may not immediately look like deco-established-fact, but Maja Mesić, a young Croatian industrial designer sent us her awarded Alatka project. Alatka has so many implications, I dare not outcount it from deco-related themes!

It’s not just a pencil, it has been created for so much more than just writing! Created to adapt the movement and the drawing position of the hand, Alatka could be the next drawing innovation! (not to mention an aesthetic revolution of the writing tools!) Looking forward to Maja Mesić’s future creations! (for more information about the designer/product, you can email maja.productdesigner at gmail.com)

Remember that magical puzzle rug we talked about few months back? This Silicon glued rug is somewhat similar, the grown up version of a puzzle.

The distinct pieces are held together by a silicon glue web. Though invisible, the silicon glue web has a hidden functionality – to keep the carpet in place on the floor. This whimsical carpet is made by Erik Abelin for Industrial Design.

Not long ago I started a details-series about the little inspirational details in everything we see. The last time it was all about exterior blinds, now it’s still about the exterior, the amazing exterior garden of a house, all signed by Angela Roldão Arquitetura.

The exotic beauty and the absolute calm and peace air coming from this place make me stare in complete abandon of myself, thinking about endless beaches, neverending holidays, swimming in the pool and late night cocktails.

I can’t decide if the place looks better the day or the night, I just have the feeling the house and the surrounding garden & pool are never asleep or never quite awake. It’s just beautiful. And the photos taken by Daniel Mansur captured all that magic! (you can see more from Daniel Mansur’s work here)
